If Kinnear was aiming at Pardew he's only managed to hit his own foot!

I can't see Joe Kinnear staying long in this job. Initially, it was thought that Alan Pardew was for the chop, but Kinnear's arrival has proved so farcical that I can't see the Club putting up with his behavior for long.

A Director of Football is part of the modern game, classically the link between the Board and the 1st Team. Increasingly the role encompasses youth development and scouting, which in the case of the later is an area in which Newcastle have excelled in recent seasons.

If Joe Kinnear's appointment was really meant to unsettle Alan Pardew, then wouldn't it have the same effect on Chief Scout Graham Carr? No matter what the Geordie faithful think of Mike Ashley, I can't believe he would wantonly and deliberately unsettle this essential and profit making element of his Club.

The idea that Joe Kinnear, a former manager known to Mike Ashley and Newcastle, was appointed as a Director of Football "on the cheap" is far more likely. The fact that this has now spectacularly back fired can only throw this appoint right up into the air. The lack of a formal statement by the Club, which would have codified Kinnear's true role, can only indicate back pedalling. The longer the wait, the faster the pedalling!

The link between the footballing side of the Club and the business side is an important one. Yet Kinnear's age and medical history surely indicate that this was never an appointment for the long term. Far more likely, he was to be employed as a care-taker, establishing the role and its structure, ultimately to be developed by a successor.

By shooting from the hip before his appointment was announced, Joe Kinnear has inevitability shot himself in the foot.
